History

The QUiTWORKS program was developed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Massachusetts health plans and customized for Rhode Island. It supports healthcare providers in helping their patients quit tobacco.

QUiTWORKS-RI launched in May 2006, with outreach to various hospitals and community health centers around the state beginning in June. We expanded outreach efforts in 2007; many sites and types of providers are involved with QUiTWORKS–RI:

  • Physician practices
  • Hospitals
  • Hospital physician groups
  • Dental hygienists
  • Wellness sites
  • Care coordinators for major insurers and employee health services
  • Community Health Centers

Today, QUiTWORKS–RI continues to broaden and strengthen cessation efforts across all sectors of health care across the state of Rhode Island.
