How it Works

QUiTWORKS-RI lets clinicians connect patients who want to quit smoking with free counseling and other state tobacco treatment services as easily as possible. Referrals can be made from a variety of health care settings including: hospitals, community health centers, physician’s offices, hospital based physician groups, dental offices, and health and wellness programs.

  • REFER your patients to QUiTWORKS-RI using the online or fax enrollment form.
  • The quitline calls your patient to complete a patient assessment and start counseling services.
  • Report 1: Within 2-3 weeks, the referring provider receives a faxed report confirming whether we were able to contact your patient and if s/he accepted services.
  • Report 2: Receive a 7 month follow-up report on your patient’s smoking status (long-term outcome).

Who is it for?

  • Any Rhode Island resident who uses tobacco, regardless of health insurance status
  • Patients who speak any language (staff provide services in English and Spanish; other languages available by third-party interpretation)
  • Patients with hearing limitations (TTY line)
